About Torino City Lab

Imagine TO

Torino offers the entire city for the testing of innovative solutions, providing a system of physical, technological infrastructures, relations and know-how to experiment and then scale up the proposed innovations

Building on its territorial know-how and industrial past, Torino becomes an open laboratory of frontier innovation able to attract companies and skills to guide the development of the "City" of the future. Autonomously driven and connected vehicles, Drones, IOT and 5G, Artificial intelligence and robotics: frontier technologies at the service of quality of life, environmental and social sustainability at city size.

Currently Torino City lab promotes specifically co-development and testing in the following areas:

  • AUTONOMOUS MOBILITY SERVICES with a focus on autonomous vehicles and drones for the transportation of people and things.
  • INNOVATIVE URBAN SERVICES enabled by 5G technologies: city applications of artificial intelligence and collaborative robotics, Internet of Things, augmented and virtual reality.

Torino City Love

Torino City Love was an initiative of solidarity and open innovation aimed at Torino City Lab partners and not only, to offer free resources, actions and skills to support citizens and businesses in the area during the COVID-19 emergency.

The project won the European Living Lab competition organized by ENoLL - European Network of Living Labs, of which Torino City Lab is a certified member.

First tests of telepresence robots in Turin's museums

On 11 July 2020, as part of the European project 5G-Tours, Torino City Lab, in collaboration with TIM and Fondazione Torino Musei, carried out the first testing telepresence robots at Palazzo Madama and GAM.

The tests provided important indications on the robot’s ability to move in the rooms of the museum, on the quality of the transmitted images and on the semi-autonomous driving skills.

Skypersonic Torino

On 7 May 2020 was presented the Skypersonic Torino project, with the experimentation of special drones called Skycopter made by Skypersonic, for inspection and sanitation missions in closed spaces.

Operations have shown: a greater speed and efficiency of operations; a reduction in the number of personnel involved and the achievement of critical and uncomfortable areas.

"Olly" testing starts in Turin

On the 16th of January 2020 the testing of "Olli" - a self-driving, electric, 3D-printed shuttle - begun in Turin with a trial period that will last four months, during which the shuttle will provide transport services within the ITC-ILO campus.
