The news arrived on Christmas Eve: Turin was ranked first in the  Ministry of Economic Development's announcement for the Casa delle Tecnologie Emergenti (House of Emerging Technologies).

Our city presented the best project. "The announcement of MED was published on March 4, 2020 and we know what happened at that time," said Marco Pironti in an interview to present the project and added: "We responded in a totally emergency phase with a project that makes us look beyond, to the period that will come after".

CTE NEXT, this is the name of the project, is to indicate what will come next, with a confident look to the future and modern emerging technologies.

CTE NEXT will be a center of widespread technology transfer on emerging technologies in sectors identified as strategic for the territory of Turin: smart mobility, industry 4.0 and innovative urban services.

The headquarters of CTE NEXT will be in the new spaces of the CSI in Corso Unione Sovietica, "CSI NEXT", where work has already begun. Then it will have ramifications on a large part of the city territory, enhancing widespread assets of the City and partners to support the different functions and vocations of the project.

Turin will be able to count on ministerial funding (7.5 million euros requested by the City), in addition to the 6 million euros made available by the partners involved in the initiative.

To give body to the project, the City of Turin, which is the leader, will be joined by entities operating in the field of research and technology transfer (Politecnico di Torino, Università degli Studi di Torino, Fondazione Links, CIM 4. 0), by public and private entities active in the support of innovative entrepreneurship (the university incubators I3P and 2i3T, Talent Garden, Digital Magics), by in-house entities operating in the vertical trajectories identified (CSI Piemonte, 5T), by the technology partner TIM and by Torino Wireless that will guarantee the clustering actions on a local and national scale. They are all partners of Torino City Lab, the project reality on which CTE Next is based and with which it shares a fundamental objective. Which is?

"We don't just want to test technologies - explained Marco Pironti - but to bring technologies closer to citizens, students and startuppers, to make them familiar and useful".

Chiara Appendino added that CTE NEXT together with Torino City Lab wants to "bring together public and private sectors to improve the lives of citizens through technology and create important jobs".

The inauguration of CTE NEXT's headquarters is scheduled for May, and in four years the project will be developed and stabilized with the final goal of strengthening Turin's innovation ecosystem.
