Saturday, February 5, on the occasion of the National Day against food waste, the city Councilor for Environmental Policies, Chiara Foglietta, participated in the initiative Sabato Salvacibo (Saturday FoodSaver), organized in Piazza della Repubblica (Porta Palazzo Market) by the association Eco dalle Città.

In addition to Porta Palazzo, Sabato Salvacibo was held at the same time in about fifteen other local markets in Turin with the aim of recovering and redistributing surplus fruit and vegetables, a priority identified and promoted also by the European project Fusilli of which the City fo Turin is partner, which promotes the fostering of city food policies with innovative Living Labs.

"In Turin - stressed Councillor Foglietta - for years there has been an exemplary work of food recovery in the markets, such as that of Repopp (Porta Palazzo Organic Project) supported by the City of Turin - which combines circular economy, integration and solidarity.
We must systematize - she added - the actions and initiatives against food waste and work to connect the various projects, designing an organic food policy of this city".

More than 400 tons of fruit and vegetables have been recovered from the Turin markets through the Repopp and Sabato Salvacibo projects.
